Totalitarianism Essays - Forms Of Government, Political Philosophy
Totalitarianism According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, the definition of totalitarianism is a form of government that theoretically permits no individual freedom and that seeks to subordinate all aspects of the individual's life to the authority of the government (http://www.britannica.com/). Totalitarian governments are often believed to be a solution to political or economic problems in a country. Despite the brutality and lack of freedom, at its beginning, a totalitarian government often receives overwhelming support for its ideas and goals. History has proven that such governments have had a tremendous negative impact on their people and traditions. Totalitarian governments often emerge from developing countries that are trying to build their economy. They are also considered to be a solution for countries that have recently been through a social, economic or political downfall. At the beginning of their rule, these regimes tend to be very popular and have the support of most people in the country. This popularity is mostly due to the government's promises of an ideal society. A totalitarian administration also requires a charismatic leader and modern developments in transportation and communication to spread its message. In order for a totalitarian state to be built, the leader must have a tremendous will to transform the society into his version of utopia (http://www.uta.edu). A central concept in the totalitarian system is the attainment of a specific goal. This goal is the reason why a totalitarian government exists and is essential to keeping the regime in power (http://www.britannica.com/). In Hitler's case, his goals were the purification of the Aryan race and the expansion of his territory. In a totalitarian state, all of its

My Boo essays
The Great Gatsby/ My Boo essays In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald a man named Gatsby falls in love with a beautiful woman named Daisy. They are separated when he goes to war. While he is gone she move on with her life and marries another man, somewhat for his wealth; she tells Gatsby that Rich girls dont marry poor boys. When he comes back he still loves her and wants to be with her, in this sense I think he is trying to live in the past because they were so happy. They meet again and have the same spark of love for each other. Daisy still loves him too and plans to leave her husband, Tom and go with Gatsby. To relate this novel to a song I chose My Boo by Usher and Alicia Keys; the song is about a boy and girl growing to love each other. They get separated, moved on, and still have the same love for one another but can not be with them. For the intro of My Boo Usher says Theres always that one person that will always have your heart which applies to the novel because Gatsby and Daisy have each others hearts forever. Even though she is married and has a daughter she would rather be with Gatsby, because he makes her happy and all Tom (Her husband) only has is his wealth. So does happiness come before wealth? I would say it does, why would you someone want to be rich and miserable when they can be average and happy? I believe that Daisy and Gatsby would love each other in any condition. If Daisy were to stay with Tom she would always have that one empty space in her heart that belongs to Gatsby. After the war Gatsby becomes a bootlegger, he has quite a bit of money that he didnt have when he first met Daisy. Now he lives in a mansion and is quite famous in New York, mostly for his parties. Another connection to the song is when Alicia Keys says Even before all the fame and people screaming your name I was there and you were my baby. This re ...

Marketing plan for british airways short haul flights Coursework
Marketing plan for british airways short haul flights - Coursework Example This highlights the need for business organizations to induce greater efficiency in their business process. The present study would focus upon the marketing strategies of British Airways with regards to short haul flights. The choice of the topic assumes significance considering that short haul flights constitute an important part of the business areas for the organization. The following sections would conduct an analysis of the marketing strategies of the firm that would help it to achieve success in the particular business segment. Market Analysis The recent economic crisis had imposed a very crucial blow to the business prospects of the participants of the airline industry. The dip in the levels of disposable income coupled with cost cutting measures taken by business organizations had a heavy impact on the revenue and profit margins of the participants of the airline industry in UK. A report published by the House of Commons in UK states that an approximate 225 million individual passengers and 2 million tonnes worth of goods used the aerial route for transportation. The report also shows comeback signs for the industry as it expect the industry to grow by approximately twice its present market value by 2030. The report also foresees plans for expansion of airports including the construction of a third runway at London Heathrow airport. The report also states the domestic passengers in UK are increasingly resorting to air travel due to the falling fares of the airlines (House of Commons, 2010, p.3). Low cost airlines are also emerging as a threat to British airways by virtue of their competitive pricing strategy. Customer Analysis Customers are the most important stakeholders for an organization. This is particularly more evident for organizations like British Airways whose business market is flooded with competitors. This makes it essential to formulate strategies so as to gain market advantage. In case of airline industry the consumer purchase decision is based on aspects like pricing which is one of the most important aspects that are considered by customers for making a purchase decision. In addition to this some other factors to be considered by the customers include loyalty programs, effective schedule of timings, comfort and ambience, safety and security, type of aircraft etc (refer annexure 1 for details) (Williams, 2008, p.19). Low cost carriers have become a major market player for the short haul segment, which is mostly because of the low fares offered by the airlines. However the low cost carriers score low on their ability to efficiently handle the operations. This represents a gap in the product offering and customer desires which could be effectively tapped by full time carriers like British Airways to gain market advantage. Marketing Objectives The marketing strategy of British Airways for a three year period would be based on the following objectives. These objectives would encompass customers, employees, performance, partnerships and service excellence. The main objective of the firm would be to gain market share by providing extremely high levels of service quality and ensuring greater efficiency in operations. The focus of the firm with regards to short haul flights
